Jennifer's two cents
I got interested in fashion models because my grandpa Ken was a "gentleman's gentleman" to male fashion models. He always says that his service was something that gave males the edge. Whereas female models may have maids and the like, a gentleman's gentleman was more than a valet. He ran interferance and gave business advice to the gentleman he was in service to. Grandpa Ken says that female models are too often exploited by their managers and agencies. That is, the managers/agencies are not interested in the long term prospects of their clients, but only in squeezing as much in commissions out of them that they can.
. A gentleman's gentleman has much authority, often blocking inappropriate sexual liasons, preventing scams, promoting charitable interests, and, very often, intercepting bad advice from managers and agencies. His advice to all young models establishing their careers: get rid of anyone who advises you to display sexually, it is a shortcut to oblivion. He knows the temptations of the $20,000.00 gig, but it has ruined many promising careers. Oddly enuff, he says that when a model reaches a certain age, it may be appropriate if done tastefully. . Because of my grandpa I had many opportunities to model but it was 'way to stressful and demanding for me. But if I ever wanted a career, my grandpa offered to come out of retirement to be a "ladies' gentleman" for me. He says that every serious fashion model should have one. He also says that such a person has to have had a successful business background, be over 50, be forceful, and discreet beyond question--with the motto of "I endevor to give satisfaction." |
